Presentation of Europol’Agro

Europol’Agro makes full use of scientific and technological resources in Champagne-Ardenne for the development of bio-based industries through innovation and the sustainable exploitation of large-scale farming crops, as well as the world renowned Champagne vineyard.

Our missions

It acts as an interface and R&D network leader in fields related to agriculture resources: strengthening the identity and attractiveness of the regional research on the international scene, setting up integrated projects that promote innovation and technology transfer. These actions are upstream and complementary to those from “Industries and Agro-Resources” (IAR), the competitive cluster with a worldwide vocation, which Europol’Agro contributed to setting up with its partners from Champagne-Ardenne and Picardy.

Our research themes

These are essentially focused on two main areas:

  • exploitation of agro-resources : scientific bases for the development of biorefineries, new value-added uses of pentoses andlignins, agro-materials and plant-derived functional or bioactive molecules, life cycle analysis.
  • sustainable development of regional agriculture : protecting water quality, alternative vine protection strategies (elicitors, biofungicides…) and the quality of Champagne wines (biochemistry and physicochemistry of bubbles and foam).

Implementation tool

Europol’Agro provides the engineering behind R&D projects, and supervises their development and follow-up on a regional level based on strong partnerships, in particular:

  • regional and national players,
  • the IAR cluster to help identify projects arising from SMEs and international initiatives.

Reports

Charles PORTELLA, Coordinator of the GLYCOVAL programme, Professor at the University of Reims Champagne-Ardenne, Director of UMR CNRS/URCA “Selective reactions and applications” , which became part of the Reims Institute of Molecular Chemistry – ICMR – in 2008 (Marne – France).

“Europol’Agro has promoted intergrated projects and played an essential role in engineering and monitoring the programme, providing the interface between researchers, experts and socio-economic and financial players”.

Yvon LE HENAFF, Managing Director of ARD, a private partner in the Glycoval programme (Marne – France).

“Europol’Agro brings public and private research together. As well as promotion, innovation and technology transfer which result from research contracts such as GLYCOVAL and the extending programme (PENTORAF), we are committed to Europol’Agro and the URCA laboratories in PhDs and post-doctorate projects”.

GLYCOVAL is extended in the current Regional-State Action Plan (CPER) through the PENTORAF programme, monitored by the Europol’Agro department; it has also contributed to privately run initiatives.
