Advanced Materials and Innovative Mechanical Processes

Our missions

Crédit photo CRITT MDTS The Department of Advanced Materials and Innovative Mechanical Processes (MAPI), supports projects which define regional research activities in materials and processes.

It is backed up by a coherent set of academic skills and a closely-link of regional, industrial infrastructure of mechanics and subcontracting companies.

Our Research themes

  • Advanced materials
The projects are related to topics ranging from new methods of producing materials and new surface treatments to studying the structure of materials, such as ferrous metallic materials or other non-metallic materials such as textiles, concrete or materials from agro-resources.
  • Innovative processes
The objective of this theme is to reduce the time taken to design a product. It covers:
    • multiscale modelling
    • identification of models and comparison with experience
    • digital simulation methods
    • process, systems and mechanical structure applications
    • integrated design assistance
    • biomechanical applications and biological and vegetable-based structures and components.

Reports

Jean-Marc POPOT - Director of the Regional Centre of Innovation and Technology Transfer on Materials, Coatings and Surface Treatment (CRITT MDTS, Ardennes, France)

«The CRITT plays a central role between industry and research, mainly in the field of materials. It is dedicated to assisting manufacturers, and more specifically, SMEs, with their innovative approaches by making technical and human tools available and by facilitating their relations with academic research. _ PROMETFOR » PROMETFOR is a R&D project which is based on improving forging tools, labelled by the Lorraine MIPI competitive cluster. It includes CRITT, University of Reims Champagne-Ardenne and the University of Metz (France) and brings together five manufacturers from the region (SMEs or factories belonging to large groups)". We also work on INTERREG (inter-regional) projects with Belgium and we have contacts in Germany".

Farid BELAHCENE – ULTRA RS (Aube)
« After my PhD, I was approached by the regional incubator to move from R&D to the creation of a Young Innovative Entreprise. My company is now set, and I am currently invloved with CARINNA’s MAPI department on research project “NANOSURF”. This project is built in partnership with the Technological University at Troyes, the CRITT and CTIF (French research and development establishment, specialised in metal casting), with two objectives for us: improving the quality control technique of nitriding, and developing an ultrasonic method to check the quality of nanostructures”.
